Smoked Paloma With Thyme Mocktail

paloma

When it comes to tequila, I must say, the margarita is the first thing that comes to mind. But the first time I tried the Paloma, I was sold! This smoked Paloma with thyme puts the perfect spin on the classic refreshing cocktail.

Palomas is a perfect blend of silver tequila, grapefruit juice, and fresh lime juice top with club soda. I have to say, Casamigos Blanco is my new fav! What’s best about this cocktail is that they are so versatile with endless flavor possibilities. Instead of classic simple syrup try mixing things up with an herbed simple syrup, such as thyme.

For the tequila enthusiast, try adding a little extra smokiness with mezcal instead of silver tequila. What really adds to the smokiness of this cocktail is the smoked pink Himalayan sea salt. You can add the same effect by rimming the glass with a mixture of pink sea salt and smoked paprika.

paloma drink

What you will need:

Bar shaker

Rocks glass

Silver tequila

Fresh lime juice

Grapefruit juice

Thyme-infused simple syrup

Smoked sea salt for rimming the glass

Club soda

Lime wedge or grapefruit wedge for garnish

Ice

bar shaker

Drink Directions:

Start by filling your bar shaker with ice. Measure 2 ounces of tequila. This jigger is super handy when it comes to getting just the right pour. Next, you’ll add your grapefruit juice. Then squeeze in your lime. I like to use my stainless steel juice presser. It’s easy on the hands and helps to get every last drop. Last but not least, add your simple syrup to the shaker and let ‘er rip.

It’s time to rim the glass. These Double Old Fashioned Glasses are my absolute favorite when making the Paloma. They just look so dang classy. Grab a wedge of lime and just swipe it across one side of the glass. This will give you a tasty base for the smoked sea salt to stick. Dip the glass into the salt. Carefully, fill it with ice and strain your concoction in.

thyme sprigs

For The Simple Syrup:

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup water

1/2 cup loosely packed thyme sprigs

Syrup Directions:

Start by combining sugar, water, and thyme sprigs in a small saucepan and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Making sure to stir frequently until the sugar dissolves. Remove the mixture from heat and cool to room temperature for about 30 minutes. Discard the thyme sprigs and pour the simple syrup mixture into an air-tight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
